SIMPLE TO START

How to play 15 Puzzle

  1. Tap a highlighted tile touching the empty square. Only an orthogonal neighbor can slide; tiles cannot jump, move diagonally or wrap between rows.
  2. Arrange the numbers in reading order, left to right and top to bottom. The empty square must finish at bottom right.
  3. Choose the 3×3 blank-space lesson for a short practice board. Plan where the empty square needs to go, then move the neighboring number into it.
  4. Undo reverses up to 200 slides, including after completion or a refresh. Restart asks before clearing just the current start.
  5. Each start saves separately in this browser. See goal shows the finished arrangement, without changing your board.

Controls

Tap a highlighted tile. Arrow keys move the empty square in the arrow’s direction; Z or Ctrl/Cmd+Z undoes. The on-screen Undo, Restart and See goal controls work without a keyboard.

A few good moves

  • Think about where the empty square needs to be before moving a tile.
  • Work on a small part of the arrangement, then make room without disturbing completed tiles.
  • Undo lets you explore a different path. There is no timer or minimum-move target.

The board, move count and up to 200 undo steps save separately for every start. If browser storage is unavailable, progress stays in the current page session, including when switching starts.

About this game

An independent implementation of the classic sliding number puzzle. Puzzle Grove created the code, artwork and fixed arrangements by seeded legal walks from the ordered goal. Every recorded reverse path is verified. Multiple solution paths are allowed; no third-party puzzle collection, daily schedule or minimum-move claim is used.
