SIMPLE TO START

How to play Lights Out

  1. Tap or click a light to switch it and its orthogonal neighbors. Diagonals stay unchanged, and the board never wraps across an edge.
  2. Blue outlines preview the affected lights. Hover or move with arrow keys. On a phone, enable Preview tap to inspect a light before pressing Flip selected light.
  3. Turn all 25 lights off to complete the circuit. Any successful route counts; no shortest-solution target is claimed.
  4. Undo reverses up to 200 flips, including after completion and refresh. Restart asks before clearing only the current circuit.
  5. Choose another circuit to keep separate progress. The collection contains 12 fixed original openings, not a daily or unlimited puzzle service.

Controls

Tap or click to flip a cross. With Preview tap on, a tap only selects; use Flip selected light to act. Keyboard: arrows select without wrapping, Enter or Space flips, and Z undoes. Restart asks for confirmation.

A few good moves

  • Preview a corner first: it changes only three lights, while the center changes five.
  • A light switches each time one of its neighbors or the light itself is pressed. Two presses on the same square cancel.
  • Changes near the bottom can disturb the row above. Try following one row at a time and use Undo to compare patterns.

Each Lights Out circuit saves its lights, selected square, Preview tap setting, flip count and up to 200 undo steps in this browser. If storage is unavailable, progress remains in the current page session while switching circuits.

About this game

An independent implementation of the classic cross-toggle Lights Out game, distinct from Akari / Light Up. Puzzle Grove created the code, artwork and finite collection of seeded, solvable starting boards. No third-party puzzle catalog is copied. Multiple successful routes may exist; shortest routes and difficulty ratings are not claimed.
