How to play Futoshiki

  1. Choose a 4×4 or 5×5 puzzle. Enter 1–N once in every row and column, with no smaller box rule. Given digits have a small diamond and cannot be changed.
  2. Satisfy every inequality. The pointed end faces the smaller value: 1 < 3 or 3 > 1. Empty gaps add no inequality.
  3. For a vertical sign, ∧ means top < bottom, and ∨ means top > bottom. Tap any sign to see its two coordinates, a diagram, your current entries and an example.
  4. Turn Notes on to toggle manual candidates. Erase clears a digit and its notes; Undo reverses up to 200 edits, including after refreshing or completing a puzzle.
  5. Check highlights current rule conflicts, not whether unfinished entries match the answer. Fill all squares and satisfy every row, column, fixed digit and inequality to finish. Restart asks before clearing only the current puzzle.

Controls

Tap a square, then use the digit pad. Keyboard: 1–N enters, N toggles notes, arrows move, Delete/Backspace/0 erases, and Z undoes. Tap an inequality to open its explanation; Escape closes it.

A few good moves

  • The largest digit cannot sit at the pointed end of a less-than relationship.
  • Trace a chain of inequalities to narrow the possible digits along it.
  • Combine a comparison with the missing digits in its row and column. Keep uncertain possibilities in Notes.

Each Futoshiki puzzle saves its numbers, candidates, selected square, note mode and up to 200 undo steps separately in this browser. If storage is unavailable, switching puzzles retains progress only within the current page session.
